Early Childhood Director Ministry Description

Your position is a vital ministry at Highline Christian Church.

As a paid staff person, you are to be a Christ-like example to the congregation and to be a good representative of His church. Because it is not just a job, but a ministry you need to make sure you prepare yourself – mentally, emotionally, and spiritually – for your ministry. Part of this preparation includes, but is not limited to a personal study of God’s word, regular Worship attendance and participation in activities of the family of Highline Christian Church.
Hours: up to 20 per week

Accountable to: Discipleship Pastor and Elders

Children’s Ministry Core Values:

  • The Bible points to Jesus (the written Word points to the Living Word, Jesus). God has one grand story, and every child is a part of it.
  • Children learn that church is a safe place and Jesus loves them.
  • Parents are the primary influence of faith in their children.
  • Children are discipled and taught at age-appropriate levels.

Principle Ministry Responsibilities/Duties:

Students
  • Create a safe and inviting environment welcoming each child to church to be loved by Jesus and to learn to love Jesus

Parents
  • Equip and encourage parents to lead their children spiritually
  • Partner with parents in ministry, through communication, and with resources
  • Provide opportunities for parents to practice leading their children spiritually

Shepherding
  • Celebrate milestones with families (Child dedications and births)
  • Follow up with visitors
  • Be actively involved in sharing the good news of Jesus and helping children worship Him
  • Pray with and for your volunteers regularly

Administration
  • Oversee the Early Childhood (Birth through Kindergarten) Ministry on Sunday mornings including everything from set up to clean up, from supporting volunteers to helping families with check-in/out.
  • Continue with the established philosophy and direction for the Children’s Ministry collaborating with the Children’s and Youth Pastors in helping to lay a foundation of faith in the lives of each child.
  • Schedule volunteers for each of the needed positions for the EC ministry. Volunteers are scheduled using the approved church scheduling resource.
  • Partner with the Children’s Pastor to manage the Early Childhood budget Maintain supplies and toys for each room, rotating toys in each space on a regular basis.
  • Inventory toys, snacks, and supplies such as diapers/baby wipes. Reorder supplies as needed.
 
Education
  • Partner with the Children’s Pastor to plan a discipleship centric Vacation Bible School staffed largely by students and intended for potty trained EC students-early elementary students each the summer
 
Leadership Development
  • Recruit volunteers
  • Encourage, equip, and support volunteers in their faith journey and EC Ministry leadership
  • Provide curriculum and other resources to aid leaders in ministry
  • Train teachers in curriculum usage and ministry curriculum philosophy (every story teaches us about God and points us to His Son, Jesus)
  • Communicate with volunteers and provide support
  • Provide training and opportunities for students to minister and serve with younger students
  • Pursue continuing education by attending seminars, conferences, and classes for you and the EC volunteer team

Requirements:

  • Personal and growing relationship with Jesus
  • Agree with the church’s statement of belief
  • Be available to serve at both services on Sunday mornings

Optional:

  • Attend staff meetings; currently from 9:00-10:30 on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month
