We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s good news, but our own lives as well - 1 Thessalonians 2:8

Highline Youth exists to come alongside Middle & High School students and their parents to help them grow deeply in love with their Creator and Savior, experience the richness of Christian community, and be equipped to go out and love others in the world with a steadfast faith.

Highline Christian Church believes that our purpose as followers of Jesus is to love God and others in our daily lives.

Welcome Statement

At Highline Youth we strongly believe in the transformative power of Jesus through relationship. We believe that Jesus perfectly modeled this on earth as he met his disciples where they were at, and walked with them through challenge, joy, and growth. This is the kind of relationship we want to model between adults and students in our ministry. We want to be a place where Adults come alongside students, helping them to experience the love of Christ, and see a model for what real faith in Christ looks like.

We are not looking for perfect people with all the right answers. We are looking for people who know they don’t have all the answers, are growing in their own faith, and depend daily on the power of Jesus. We are looking for men and women who are willing to step out of their own world, and into the lives of students. We are passionate about this ministry and want you to read and pray through this packet to see how you might fit. We encourage you to stop by and observe our ministry in action to get a feel for what it’s like before making your decision. Then fill out the attached application.

We also believe strongly that doing relational student ministry reaps rewards beyond measure for the adult leaders involved. Speaking for myself, I’ve experienced more growth and refreshment while serving in youth ministry than in any other part of my life.

Our Focus at Highline Youth

Our Mission is that…
Every student who walks through the door will encounter God’s love through connection with others, hear the truth of the gospel preached, and have a meaningful interaction with an adult leader.
Graduating Students will have fallen in love with Jesus with an active and growing faith, and be prepared for the next phase of life, having built lasting Christ-centered relationships, fostered a rhythm of spending time with God, and be excited to invest in their local church community.

We fulfill our mission through our values…
  • Gospel Truth | We want students to know they are sinful, yet loved; that Jesus took their sin to the cross and conquered it in resurrection; reuniting them in relationship with God. Everything we do flows out of this reality.
  • Discipleship | Growth happens in relationship. Sustained faith happens in relationship. Jesus models this for us in the New Testament.
  • Service | We are called to give of ourselves and we want students to experience this firsthand. God grows us and builds relationships through side-by-side service.
  • Spiritual Practice | Learning how to “be” with God takes intentionality. We want to be a place where students can learn what it means to spend time and commune with their heavenly father.
  • Community | God created us to be in community. That happens primarily in the local church. We want students to get comfortable living out their faith in a community of believers of all ages and life stages.

  • Growth We want to be a place where students can dig as deep into their faith as they desire through learning, serving, and leadership.

Students do not come to church to connect with programs; they come to connect with people. Student development happens through significant relationships with key people in their lives. Our goal is to develop leaders who:

  • love God and live for him

  • are interested in their lives

  • take initiative to spend time with them

  • pray for them

  • are real

  • say encouraging words

  • believe in them

  • laugh

  • go in to “their world”

  • are flexible

  • share God’s love through personal experience

  • are consistently present with them

  • are patient

  • enjoy life

If this sounds exciting to you, continue on to the next page. If it sounds a little intimidating, that’s ok. Anything that’s worth doing is a little stretching. We also want to meet adults where they are at, and find a commitment level that fits into their life situation.

Opportunities to Serve

Middle School Youth Leader
Our middle school youth group meets on Sunday mornings from 10:30-12. It's a time of fun, learning, and relational connection. We aim to build relationships with our middle school students that will make a lasting impact on their lives. In these first stages of "making their faith their own" we want to come alongside and help them walk through the truths of God and the gospel.
High School Youth Leader
Our high school youth group meets weekly on an evening (depends on season). It's also a rich time of connection, learning heart truths of our faith, and worship and spiritual practice. Small group ministry is highly emphasized in our ministry. We believe that it's the volunteer's primary role to build connections and disciple students in a small group, and sometimes one-on-one context.

In addition to our weekly programs we have retreats, camps, mission trip, serving opportunities, and fun events throughout the year that are really good opportunities to reinforce the relationships built during the weekly program.

What We Believe

Highline is a non-denominational Christian Church. We don't want secondary believes to get in the way of the people of God gathering together and serving together. This allows for people of various protestant persuasions to gather together in our community. We do hold firmly to in a core set of gospel truths (found on our main website), including Jesus Christ as our savior, the Triune God, Authority and inerrancy of scripture, Salvation through Christ alone. There's more where that came from on our main site.

In addition to core gospel beliefs, Highline holds firmly on a few culturally relevant positions. We believe that life begins at conception. We also believe that God created two genders, and that he designed marriage to be between one man and one woman in lifelong relationship.

While these positions may not be as central as the deity of Christ, they are positions that significantly impact the discipleship of teenagers. At Highline Youth we take them seriously. In a culture that is constantly pushing lies about who God created us to be, we get to be a light, shepherding students towards the truth, beauty, and goodness found in scripture regarding how and who he created us to be.
